Capacity

Capacity can be defined as resources means strength, which exists in households and communities and which enable them to cope with, withstand prepare for prevent, mitigate or quickly recover from a disaster.

It is opposite of vulnerability. If vulnerability decrease of an individual or community it increases capacity of that individual or community.

Types of Capacity

There are four (4) major types of Capacity. These are

  1. Physical Capacity.

  • Building code maintenance.
  • Prepared design of building.
  • Proper urbanization.

 

  1. Social Capacity.

Examples

  • Public awareness.
  • Social education.
  • Community based mitigation.
  • Indigenous knowledge.

 

  1. Economic Capacity.

Examples

  • Settlement in safe house.
  • Secured economic system.
  • Risky livelihood pattern.

 

  1. Environmental Capacity.

Example

  • Using solar energy substitute of fossil fuels.
